Leave It Better Than You Found It: The Rewilding Mindset for Work and Life
The term 'rewilding' refers to the concept of restoring natural processes in an ecosystem by removing as much human influence as possible and leaving things better than when you arrived. Well, okay, not 'you' specifically, but you know, we humans. Rewilding might involve removing invasive species, replanting native
vegetation, and even reintroducing wombats into a landscape where wombats were displaced.
What a great concept, not just for this wondrous, beautiful, amazing planet we call home, but for your workplace culture!
Now, to be clear, I am not
talking about reintroducing wombats (or even otters, as tempting as that may be) into your office. But what if everyone on your team adopted the principle:
"Let's leave everything better than how we found it."
How could you creatively apply this idea to every customer interaction? How would your lunchroom or workspace benefit from this principle? What if you set a goal that everyone in your meeting should feel better about things at the end of the meeting than when they started the meeting? What might your workplace culture look like if everyone strove to leave it better than how they found it? And how could your organization embrace this as a mantra for how you
interact with your community and even the world?
I would love to hear what you think of this concept and how you or your organization might embrace this approach to work and life?
Mike's Fun at Work Tip
There's a Popsicle Hotline at the Magic Castle Hotel in Los Angeles, California, where guests can pick up a red phone to receive free Popsicles delivered by staff on a silver tray. So, why not, even just as a creative exercise that might lead to some fun innovative ideas for your customers, brainstorm what your email,
text, or phone "hotline idea" would or could be for your business?
